Unity Swimming 1st Birthday Family Pool Party

2023: First Ever Family Pool Party
The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Leisure Centre Leicester was filled with joy and excitement on Saturday, July 1st, 2023, as Unity Swimming hosted their first-ever Family Pool Party. The event, held in celebration of Unity Swimming’s first birthday, aimed to empower individuals from Black and Asian communities to swim and pursue careers in aquatics. With DJ Mista Siyah from Hi-Fi ‘n’ i-Digital sound system providing the music and entertainment, the party was a resounding success. Over 47 attendees, including families from diverse backgrounds, gathered to enjoy the exclusive event. Guests were delighted by the family-friendly atmosphere, which provided a safe space for everyone to enjoy themselves.
The lively music and various pool accessories added to the vibrant ambience, creating an unforgettable experience for all. Partygoers shared their positive feedback, expressing their appreciation for the event’s inclusive nature. “Great vibe for families. It was also amazing to have an exclusive event for us!” said one attendee. Another guest praised the relaxed family atmosphere, stating, “A safe space where everyone was friendly and social.” The only complaint raised was the desire for more time in the pool, as the allocated hour seemed too short. Additionally, attendees suggested hosting the Unity Swimming Family Pool Party twice a year, highlighting the immense enjoyment they experienced.
The event also featured a raffle, with several generous prizes donated by local businesses. Tesco Narborough Road contributed a voucher, Swimscarf donated some of their merchandise, Hot Pot Caribbean takeaway based at Leicester’s Afro Caribbean Centre, donated a voucher, while Hi-Fi ‘n’ i-Digital sound system offered an Odeon Cinema voucher. The top prize included a one-hour, one-on-one swim lesson with Unity Swimming, providing a unique opportunity for one lucky winner to enhance their aquatic skills. The success of the Unity Swimming Family Pool Party has sparked a wave of enthusiasm among attendees, with many requesting the event be held once a month. This overwhelming response underscores the event’s positive impact and the growing demand for inclusive and empowering activities within the community.
Unity Swimming remains committed to its mission of empowering individuals from Black and Asian communities to swim and pursue careers in aquatics. With the success of their first Family Pool Party, the organization aims to continue providing safe spaces and enjoyable experiences for families to create lasting memories.
